Hunting Fun

Thats ok to hunt with a bow but some of us can not hunt with a bow due to injury or they just want to use a gun it does not make them any better then the other guy who uses a gun or bow or shotgun or a spear if they so wish I for one can not hunt with a bow because of injury to my elbows I can not pull the bow back any more so I use a gun. Hunting can be any where in this great world of ours. there is great hunting all over Not only in Montana. And by the way I also call Montana home.

30-06 is the best all around rifle…..300 mag is too strong for deer if u hunt for everything

whats funny about the 270 or 280 being based off an 06? some shoot flatter than others? i dont get the humor….

this is a rediculous statement, its like saying a vw beetle bug is way better than a ferrari….you point in saying is that an 06 is BETTER than a bigger magnum cartrige?!?! the 06 was made to compete with the german 8mm, striclty killing people, after the war, there were so many lying around, it only made sence to grab one to hunt…it was not inteded to hunt with from ist very beginning-other cartridges today ARE!

The best hunting round is the one you can consistantly and accurately hit your target with. I like the .300 Win Mag, but those other rounds are fine within their respective ranges.

I agree partially, the only draw back I find in the .300 Win mag is the punishing recoil. It made me flinch in the past but since I installed a recoil piston in the **** stock it is probably my fav- but then I hunt in Alaska so its almost necessary, and I know plenty of hunters who would disagree, but I just like the peace of mind the increased power gives me here.

A 30-06 is way better than barrel burning, hard kicking, expensive ammo magnums. The 308 is a good cartridge too with extreme accuracy. Accuracy is more important than power.

plenty of pure b.s. about the 06 as a “beginners” caliber. Shove it straight up there buddy. It all depends on the person’s ablility to shoot that certain caliber, .300 win mag kicks a little more than some people may want. Don’t get upset because the .30-06 is an all around great choice. Funny though… the .270 and .280 are based on this “beginner” cartridge.

the 06 is simply a begginer gun, because if you dont know much about guns, your bound to have heard of the 30-06 in some stories. its a great caliber, i im sure its killed 3x’s more elk the 300 win mag. but point being made, the 06 was made during WWII to simply kill people. with the tech today, there are far better choices. the 308 in 150 grain does the exact same as the 06, the only dif is 06 does better shooting bigger bullets. its ok, but there is much better choices for this day and age.

the 06 has killed more elk than the 300 mag has lied about. I just shot a 320 bull last week at 580 yrds with my 06. I have a 338 ultra mag, a 300 wsm and a 7mm rem mag and I like my 06 the best. My camp of 9 killed 8 elk and 7 of them were shot with 30-06 and with one shot as mine was. Beginners gun??? I think not.

I use a 357 HH magnum with a 270 grain bullet I just took a nice big cow elk Sunday here in Montana Its nice to have some meat in the freezer. nice shot by the way.

walked about a mile he says??? wow, i live in colorado which supposedely has the biggest concentrations of elk in north america, i hike more than 10 miles easy on each hunting trip. looks like i fucking need to move to wyoming. luckyy

i prefer a 270 short mag they have plenty of power behind them and can make the long range shot

HA! any gun can shoot over a mile. a 30-06 CAN NOT shoot over a mile and kill big game, id be surprised if you could hit a barn.
btw, a mile is 1, 762 yards. the 50 bmg has a hard time getting out there. accurate round yes, within its range about 400 yards. and yes, very common, because all begginers start with it. btw, i have shot deer both with the 06 and 30 30, and they both do the job good, but the 30-30 does it better out to 200 yards. the 06 ballistics are good to a short range.
