In this article I’m going to try my hardest to show you how to prepare for next deer hunting season. If you are anything like me then I know that you dread to see deer season come to an end. In my neck of the woods we only have about a month left, but just because it is almost over for this year does not mean that you can’t start to prepare right away for next hunting season.
It is my true belief that you ought to begin preparing for next deer hunting season immediately after the season is over. The first thing you need to do is to is to scout out all parts of the land that you will be hunting and set up some game cameras along some heavily used trails. I recommend that you check them about once a week and record your findings in some sort of notebook or journal as to what time of the day has the most movement. I would also advise you to purchase more than one camera so you don’t have to keep moving them all the time.
Unfortunately this has to wait till spring but now is when you start planting your food plots. Follow the directions on the package to the latter to make sure that you grow the most productive food plots possible. You do not need a half – acre food plot. Instead a small garden size plot will be sufficient. Make sure that you plant a couple different things but don’t overdo it. My favorites are: turnips and clover. Deer love them both.
Another way to prepare is to keep in practice with your weapon of choice. Since I am a bow hunter, I usually try to shoot my bow at least once a week or so. Keeping in practice will not only insure a good shot but it will also give you confidence when your moment of truth arrives.
This is also a good time to go through your hunting gear and make sure that you have everything you need for the upcoming season and also do some research on new items coming out that will be helpful to you as well.
During the summer between checking your game cameras, moving tree stands, keeping in practice with your weapon and tending your food plots try to take some time out to relax and do some fishing! Before you know it, it will be hunting season again and I hope with what I have taught you that you will be prepared.
