Lots of Bear in D5. Never bothered with Bear tags since not a connoisseur of Bear flesh or Bear claw chains and allergic to Bear fur. See them a dozen times a year scouting and hunting up there. It’s REALLY rough steep country for the most part. Year ago some Fed agent told me that area is where “problem” bears are dumped off from places like Yosemite. Don’t know if that’s true but sure a good pop. up there.

@matthewserta Most of the time it’s by scull measurement.

yes they count animals taken with the aid of dogs. The world record was just picked up I don’t think they even know who shot it. Probably a sheepherder.

45/70 gov or 30-30. my cousin hunts with a 44 mag ruger. as long as its short enough not to grab some branches going through the woods is all i care about. i knew a old man one time who carried a 22 target pistol with a scope.

well there is a picture with a inscription in roanoke NC and thats what it said. but that dont mean much if it wasnt confirmed or if a person recognized by the BC club did the measuring. do you know if BC still counts animals taken with the aid of dog? i think so but im not sure. t think it depends on if it was legal in the state the animal was taken in.

In many areas, body weight has long been the standard by which bears are judged and ranked. Of course, weight cannot be verified once a bear is butchered. So the Boone Crockett Club recognizes only the combined measure of the clean skull’s length and width, which can be verified.
Huntingmagdotcom
I can’t find anywhere that says the skull measured 32 13/16. I doubt it was that big.

Look this is written in the bible that animals were put on this earth for hunting and eating purposes. But if your going to petition something why no make it against those politicians that support *** marriage, abortion, and higher taxes. something that really needs to “change”

Well if you google “World Record Black Bear” it will show both. But any of the black bear runners i have ever met have all went by weight. And thats people from NM, Mn, NC,SC, WI, and WV. All of which I have hunted in. If you look at Wikipedia for American Black Bear it only mentions weight and most State black bear hunting associations go by weight. But you are right about the world record skull ever recorded. But it is recorded BC 23 10/16 and the 881 lb from eastern NC measured 32 13/16.

You measure the skull. Look up boone and crocket world records. You will find Utah has the world record.
