The Model 770 is their entry-level rifle, designed for the mass marketers like WalMart. It is based on the discontinued Model 710, which had some problems.
The Model 700 is a superior product, but more expensive. In the Model 770 price range, I would probably opt for the Savage.

introduced in 2007, similar to the 710 but with redesigned bolt assembly and mag catch.
NIB $400
meat and potatoes kind of firearm. Accurate and reliable but plain. Not a bad purchase

Review of the Remington 770
Save yourself the aggravation, the 770 was a bad idea gone wrong.
The Remington 700 series has a great bunch of rifles, stick with the 700 you will never be sorry you did.
