Savage would make rifles in your price range and I don’t hear much complaining. That being said with guns you get what you pay for. I would seriously reccomend adding $150 to your budget and look at the 700 when they have a sale. Other than that a Savage 110 comes to mind. But thats still $350.

Then look at Marlin, Savage or Ruger – in that order.

Or, grab an expert and go pawn shopping. I picked up a wonderful Remington 308Win at a pawn shop for $180. I used it to win a place in the Alaska state silhouette championships, take 3 caribou and 5 deer. Best $180 I ever spent.

I think that for a very good quality rifle that is accurate out of the box go with a Savage go to and you can browse their selection of rifles. They are a bit more expensive than the 770 but they are way better quality. I have a Savage model 10 lefty in .243 and it shoots very nice groups. The Hunter Series are the cheapest from the site but go to a place like Gander Mtn. or Cabelas and have one of the gun dept. associates help you out they are usually very knowledgeable. Good luck

the BEST rifle for your money would be a ruger 1022 a semi automatic .22 rifle that has been around for decades and you can get parts and fit them to your gun that were put on the first 1022 ever made

I also would say a Savage. Very accurate gun for the money. I have had a model 110 in 30.06 for about 17 or so years. I have killed 30 deer with it . At the range I have never been outclassed by any other rifle. If I ever buy another bolt action it will be a Savage.

Just as important is your scope choice. Dont scrimp on a scope . Get the best scope you can afford.
