Archery hog hunting is a great choice for the hunters looking for an additional challenge, and I good meal. Archery hog hunting is one of the most popular forms of bow hunting. Bow hunters by nature are looking for a challenge by not choosing to hunt with a rifle. Bow hunting takes more physical effort, skill, and patience. The challenge of archery hog hunting can also be dangerous, because wild hogs are aggressive animals: particularly when wounded or cornered.

Hog hunting is legal year-round in many places, because wild hogs are considered a nuisance to their environment, people, and other animals. They also have high reproduction rates, with six to ten people litters. These hogs can destroy land and carry along diseases. The long amount of time that hogs are legally allowed to be hunted adds to the popularity of the sport. Another reason that hog hunting is popular is because wild boar meat is considered a great meal. The danger of hog hunting also attracts many archers.

The prime time for hog hunting is in the late afternoon to early evening. This is when the hogs are most mobile and increases hunters’ chances of spotting one. Many hunters set up still hunting spots. These spots can be baited trails to attract the hogs, and a successful method is by setting up corn feeders. Hunters can wait around the feeders and ambush hogs when they appear. A more demanding method may be by stalking hogs. This can be extremely physical, as it often requires crawling under brush and prolonged walking. When stalking hogs, hunters may use a calling device or travel near known hog trails and feeders. Whichever method you choose, just remember that archery hog hunting can be as dangerous as it is challenging.

Hunting these animals is not for the faint of heart. Hogs can weigh several hundred pounds and some male hogs have large tusks. Hogs are also difficult to kill with an arrow, because they have around two and a half inches of cartilage beneath their skin. This may prevent the arrow from penetrating enough to kill, and may only wound the animal. Hogs are naturally aggressive and will only be angered when wounded. The hunter must be careful to pull away from the animal and hide. If a wounded hog is approaching, the hunter should fire another arrow when the animal is five to six feet away. Many hunters have been wounded while hunting hogs, so it is important to be careful.

Archery hog hunting is a fun and demanding sport than can be a proud kill for any archer. However, even experienced hunters must be careful when hunting these animals.

There are many hunters out there each year hunting down wild boars, mostly because they want to stay in practice when the deer season is closed or because they simply like hunting this type of game. In addition, hogs can be a real nuisance in some areas and eliminating some of them might ease the pressure. Due to the reason that most of the hunters that pursue hogs are in fact deer hunters, they do not know where to shoot a wild boar to get its vitals. In this article, we will try to explain where the best shots are.

The best shot would be in the shoulder area, preferably lower. However, you must pay attention not to aim so low because you might hit under the swine. If the hog is quartering away or towards you, you will want to place the shot so that the bullet will end up in the vitals, right between the shoulders. Of course, this means that the bullet must penetrate well.

There have been many discussions among hunters about shooting a hog in the head. Indeed, it is deadly efficient, but only if you hit the animal in the brain. The downside is that the wild boar has a small brain and this means that the likelihood of making a deadly shot is much reduced. In addition, its brain is very well protected by a thick skull, which means that you will need a tough bullet in order to penetrate.

Probably the most debated topic is of the old “behind-the-ear-with-a-22″ story, although not many have practiced it. This works great, but only if the shooter is next to the boar, but it isn’t very efficient nor should it be tried at bigger distances. The bullets used in rimfire cartridges, especially in the 22 long rifles, are in most cases quite soft, and do not have enough power in order to penetrate very well. In this case, the bullet will most likely flatten out on the bone of the boar’s skull, meaning that it won’t get the job done as you had hoped.

A broken shoulder will certainly put a wild boar down on the spot, just as it will do with basically any other type of game. This can prove to be of great help, as you will be able to do a follow-up shot, if it is necessary. The best case scenario would be to kill it quickly and efficiently, avoiding trailing the animal. In the case of a mature hog, you certainly don’t want him to approach you with its sharp tusks.

The question is: how much gun do we need to take down a hog? The answer is not that simple as it depends upon the boar and the placement of the bullet. A general rule says that first-time boar hunters should start with any of the cartridges in the.30-30 Winchester as they offer enough power for most of these animals, especially with the 170-grain bullets of proper construction. Lesser cartridges can be used for smaller hogs.

Join us in the second part of the article where we will discuss about choosing the appropriate ammo for taking down a wild boar.

If the climate is bad for a prolonged period of time, you can enjoy a very successful duck-hunting experience. Experienced hunters claim that a stormy weather accompanied by harsh and cold winds means that it is the right time to bring out your duck-hunting equipment. On the contrary, warm, pleasant weather means that it is wrong time to go duck hunting.

Best Duck Hunting Spots

As per the available information, the Tennessee River Valley in North Alabama is an excellent spot for hunting waterfowl, including duck. This is the best spot for duck hunting in Alabama because it is an agricultural zone that naturally produces a lot of milfoil. In addition, food and water is available in plenty. The region features a number of backwaters, and the river itself is a home for the birds. Some of the great game birds that arrive from the northern regions are scaups, coots, and mallards.

The Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, situated near Decatur in Alabama, is a sanctuary not only for ducks, but also other birds. Every winter, the refuge receives around 60,000 migrating ducks, which spend the season feeding on crops and escaping from hunters. Of course, hunting is not allowed in the premises of the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge; however, enthusiastic hunters do a lot of heavy hunting in the regions around it.

The greatest spot for duck hunting in Alabama is the Swan Creek WMA, a short distance from the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge. It is public property and comprises large tracts for duck hunting.
