Bear hunting is one of the most exciting types of game in the United States. However, it’s also one of the most regulated due to depleting populations and over hunting in the past. Majority of US states have some form of legal bear hunting. You just need to know the laws regarding it and what you can and can’t do. This article will give you a little insight and help direct you on the right path to legally hunt bears in your area.

The first step is to find out what bear species you can legally hunt. Your state government’s official wildlife or conservation website is an excellent source for this. You can find a link containing each state’s official site at the end of this article. After learning about the species you can legally hunt it’s a very smart idea to learn how to visually identify those bear species in the wild.

The second step is to obtain any special license permits and tags. You’ll always need a hunting license to hunting any type of animal; and this license is given out per state. You’ll also need another permit to go bear hunting and probably need a tag for any bears you actually do harvest. Pay special attention to any limits in terms of gender and size. All this information is obtaining by your state government’s official wildlife or conservation website

Finally you need to know what you legally can and can’t do while bear hunting. This might include limits on ammo or rifle types. Also, you may or may not be able to bait bears. This is when you place out food to attract a bear to a specific area. Bear baiting is banned in quite a few states and you need to find out if it’s legal in your state. Make sure you follow all regular hunting regulations; this includes hunting seasons, required safety gear, etc.

Hunting has always been a popular activity and each hunter has a preference as far as what type of animal they like to hunt. For many hunters, the most exciting animals to go hunting for are bears because of their imposing size and ability to detect and stay away from humans. To hunt down an impressive trophy bear, follow these important bear hunting tips.

Bears that are at risk of being hunted become very skilled at detecting humans in the area, so it is important to stay well disguised. Their visual activity is based primarily on vision, just like many animals, so it is important to stay as still as possible. Also, it is a good idea to bring along cough drops to prevent extra noise from a scratchy throat.

In order to stay disguised from bears, it is also advisable not to smoke on a hunting trip. The impressive trophy bears are typically older and have learned to recognize the smell of tobacco and that it comes from humans. In addition to the scent, bears are instinctively afraid of smoke and fire, so the smoke will keep them away from the hunting area.

In most hunting areas, there are laws about which bears can be hunted at which time, so it is vitally important that a hunter knows exactly what they are shooting at. For example, it is generally illegal to shoot a female bear with her cubs. A female bear can be recognized because her ears will appear closer together than the ears of a male bear.

By following a few simple bear hunting tips, any hunter can have success with bear hunting. It is important to take steps to conceal the hunter’s presence of the bears and to be careful only to shoot legal game. A hunter who plays by the rules and is careful to camouflage themselves will have a fun, exciting and successful hunting trip each time.
