Sus scrofa from the kingdom Animalia, also known as the wild boar or hog, is one of the most widely distributed among the pig species. There are 16 recognized subspecies of the wild hog.

The hogs are of medium size mammal but it could grow up to three hundred pounds. It has a large head and front end which leads to a smaller hind. It has a thick and coarse double coat of fur. The fur is consists of a hard and bristly top layer with a softer undercoat beneath it. Its colour varies from brown to black, to dark red or dark grey.

Hogs are omnivorous animal. The hogs’ main diet is consists of shrubs, weeds, bird eggs, snakes, grasshoppers, mice, roots, tubers and even manure.

Hogs is the most widely distributed mammal in the whole world and it is very abundant amongst the continents of North America, Africa and on some parts of Europe and Asia. These hogs can be found in variety of different habitats including tropical jungles and grasslands, but they tend to favour deciduous broad – leafed forest where vegetation is incredibly dense.

In the United States, hogs were introduced and arrived through a ship commanded by Fernando de Soto. The ship landed on the Gulf Coast of South Florida in 1539. Wild hogs were introduced into the ecosystem through intentional or accidental releases. Wild hogs have become the most successful exotic big game specie. They have been reported as more common than deer in Georgia.

Wild hog hunting have been allowed in areas where most of the hogs are abundant. Wild hog hunting is just a way of minimizing the public nuisance that this animal can cause in some cities.

As a part of the ecosystem where hunters can also be hunted, wild hogs’ primary predator are panthers, bears and even humans. Wild hogs are not really friends with farmers when they root up the farmers’ fields. They also compete for food against other animals such as deer, turkeys, and squirrels.

Hogs or Pigs are one of the most criticized creatures in history. Pigs are one of the “unclean” animals that were stated in “Deuteronomy 14:8″ in the Bible. Muslims are not allowed to eat pork for the same reason as stated in the “Holy Qur’ an 5:4″. Whatever is the cultural reception about pigs and hogs, it still remains as one of the best games that can be found in the United States.

Crossbow hunting you need skill as it’s a powerful weapon and with any weapon you must practice before you expect greatness in the field. Like any weapon you must get to know it’s quirks, and adjust it to your needs. Hunting blinds are wonderful for crossbow hunting especially if you are using decoys when turkey hunting or when boar hunting as pigs are super smart and can be super aggressive so it’s not a bad idea to use a blind to protect yourself against these beasts.

Now that many states are allowing crossbows during hunting seasons there has been more acceptance among hunters. There are a lot of things to know before stepping into the field on your first bow hunting trip. A lot of people come to the sport knowing someone who can teach them the basic guidelines, but others must teach themselves. A lot of research will be necessary and there are some guidelines to know before even stepping into the store to buy your first bow.

Some people buy under the misconception that it is best to have the heaviest bow they can use. This is definitely not the case. It is essential for a bow to feel good in a hunter’s hands; otherwise he won’t get true shots, or won’t use the bow at all due to discomfort. The only time it is good to use the heaviest bow possible is when hunting for big game, such as elk, ox, or bear. A strong bow can also be used in 3-D tournaments when using very fast arrows and a flat trajectory. Otherwise, when hunting whitetail, turkey, and even small black bear, using a compound bow in the 50 pound weight range is the best choice. This size can put an arrow all the way through the target, while still being comfortable for most hunters to handle. The only exception to this is when using recurve bows, in which they require a larger weight. Women usually prefer a bow in the 45 pound range.

The most important factor when choosing a bow is finding one that fits the individual hunter. Bows are not one size fits all, and different types and brands will all fit differently. Be sure that it is comfortable in your hands. It should feel balanced in your grip, and you should be able to pull the bow at it’s draw weight comfortably. Many hunters use bows that are too heavy for them; they assume that the bow will either loosen up, or that their muscles will develop more when using it. Using a bow that is too heavy can throw off your shot and ruin your accuracy. Another important thing to do when shopping for a bow is to browse around. A name brand bow isn’t always the best choice for every hunter. Choosing a reputable brand with good construction is important but be sure to browse around too. Spend what you can afford, and buy the bow that is best for you.

The last suggestion for newcomers to bow hunting is to shop at an outfitter with an archery expert. An experienced hunter who knows his way around bows is often able to make a good decision, but a newcomer needs some guidance when making his first investment. First of all, the draw weight: a confident bow hunter will always choose a draw weight that will not affect his ability to make an accurate shot, no matter what are circumstances in which he will make that shot. We recommend using a bow scale in order to check the bow’s draw weight. The heavy vibrations that are produced during the shot can in some cases alter the limb bolts and will reduce the draw weight.

Second of all, the broadheads: the shot placement in wild turkey hunts is critical. Unlike the vast majority of the big games, the wild turkey’s vitals are about the size of a grapefruit. Many amateur hunters make the mistake of shooting arrows with field points and then after that they switch over to broadheads the day of the hunt. Moving on, three of the most vital aspects for you bow hunting success are: sight system, bowstring and the arrow rest. As most of you know, pins tend to slide up and down and eventually bend and break, this problem also occurs with the frames that serve for protection. Don’t forget to give your bowstring a once-over the moment you have finished tinkering with your sights. Remember to look for cut strands because they can lead to inefficient shooting and God forbid, dangerous situations if the string breaks during the shot. Apply wax to your string on a regular basis and check the arrow rest in order to make sure that nothing has moved/loosened since your last hunting expedition. The arrow rests are very important as they can affect the flight of the arrow.

Many hunters make the mistake of not taking seriously into consideration the nock set. The slightest movement up or down where the arrow meets the string can alter the arrow’s flight as it comes off the string. We recommend using a bow square so that you can measure the exact point on the bowstring, the place where the nock set allows for the most efficient arrow flight.

Placement is crucial for hunting wild turkey with a bow that is why in order to be an efficient bow hunter you have to put in the time. All turkey hunters that use a bow have to change their hunting tactics in comparison with the hunters that use the old-fashioned shotgun because shot gunners can easily plop down at the closest tree the width of their back and with no efforts, create efficient shooting lanes. A regular bow hunter can’t afford this luxury so the best setups are those that are thought well in advance.

Last but not least, practice makes perfect. If you are uncertain of your bow hunting skills you need to practice in order to improve your overall performance. Remember to shoot from both sitting and kneeling positions because in real action you will rarely have the opportunity of shooting a turkey in standing position but of course, a few shots from standing position won’t hurt anyone.

Sportsmen looking for an additional hunting challenge sometimes turn to old-style black powder rifles, hunting deer and other big game at a closer range, with a one-shot limit. It’s a test of a hunter’s patience and skill – you have to really know the game you’re hunting, you have to be more conscious of the wind, and you need to be able to get much closer. It’s a primitive weapon, but many hunters find that it gives them a great sense of accomplishment, and makes them feel more connected to their ancestors, who used weapons like these to hunt for food.

Black powder hunting for deer requires you to carry to carry more accessories than you do when hunting with a modern rifle. The black-powder shooter needs to carry powder, balls, patches, a ramrod, cleaning jags, patch lube, solvent, and a ball pulling worm. Even if you have a bag that stores all this gear comfortably, you’ll still need to be extremely organized. It also ups the challenge of hunting big game at a closer distance, since all those powders, lubes and solvents add to your scent, increasing your need to be conscious of the way the wind carries.

Interestingly, the reason that black-powder hunting is done at such a close range isn’t because of the power or accuracy of the weapon but because of the limitation of your sight. A modern hunting rifle with a scope allows you to see for hundreds of yards – but the open sight of a black-powder gun doesn’t give you that advantage. Some hunters choose to mount rifle scopes on their black-powder rifles, but the traditionalists say that this takes away from the purpose of black-powder hunting.

You also have to patient and accurate with a black-powder gun, since you only get one shot – something that’s a real novelty for hunters used to autoloading or bolt-action rifles. And it’s a completely different type of hunting, one that many hunters have difficulty adjusting to. With a multiple shot rifle, a hunter will take whatever shot is presented to him as soon as he spots it, figuring that if misses he can take another shot. With muzzleloaded black-powder gun, however, the hunter has to wait for his one good shot. Even if the deer’s right out in the open in front of him, if he doesn’t have that one good shot, he just has to wait it out.

There’s a great deal of skill and knowledge that goes into this type of deer hunting – you have to know how close you can get to the deer, what you range is, and whether you can get that one shot. But when it all comes together, black-powder deer hunting is an accomplishment unlike any other.

Most hunters generally have a choice of three optic devices to consider when preparing for their next big game hunt:

A good set of binoculars to help locate their game, A rifle telescope that has been zeroed for a specific distance, and A quality spotting scope to definitively identify that distant game.

While binoculars and a rifle telescope often all that is necessary for close in and woodland shooting, a spotting scope becomes a necessity in vast open terrain and in mountain hunting.

Game animals such as antelope, sheep, goats, elk, caribou, and bear use wide-open spaces and distance as a protective shield against predators and hunters.

The nature of hunts against these animals require that you locate them, identify their characteristics, decide if it meets your desired specifications, and, if it does, then stalk in for a possible shot.

Because binoculars have a wider field of view than do spotting scopes, many hunters begin scanning the distant terrain with their binoculars to locate the game. But the magnification of binoculars generally is not great enough to fully identify distant game as being the quality you are seeking. The power of binoculars typically stops at the 8X, 10X, or 12X magnification range. This is where the spotting scope with its 15X to 60X magnification power comes into use. The higher magnification of these scopes is used to definitively identify the characteristics of your game. Spotting an animal on the distance mountain side is an accomplishment, but the greater magnification of the spotting scope will help you decide if that animal is worthy of stalking as a possible trophy. Know that you have a prize animal in sight before you start your stalk. The scope will assist in eliminating the guesswork. No wasted time and effort stalking over rugged and difficult terrain only to find out that the game is no more than a regular herd animal.

Glassing with binoculars for extended periods is tiring work, on both your body and your eyesight. Holding binoculars to your eyes for an extended time tends to lead to shakes and hand movement. Lying prone and using your arms and elbows to steady the binoculars may help for a few moments, but rocks and hard ground soon become uncomfortable.

Spotting scopes and tripods are the solution.

With the 15X to 60X magnification it is extremely difficult to hand hold a spotting scope for steady, quality viewing. For that reason a tripod is almost always used with a spotting scope. The tripod is placed securely in a solid location and affords a stable and steady viewing platform for the scope. No physical holding is required. Position the scope to a particular distant point, and it remains fixed on that point. The image being viewed remains stable, steady, and clear. Your hands are free – to possibly switch back to your binoculars if a wider field of view is desired. And when you come back to the scope again you still have that previous view and image.

Spotting scopes also play a big role in zeroing your rifle to a particular target and distance. Using the scope from your shooting bench saves time and energy in evaluating your rifles hit pattern. Instead of walking down to the target after each series of shots, analysis can be made in place by viewing the bullet hole hits from the shooting bench. Fire off a series of shots, view the hit placement through the scope, and make the necessary sight adjustments.
