Archery hog hunting is a great choice for the hunters looking for an additional challenge, and I good meal. Archery hog hunting is one of the most popular forms of bow hunting. Bow hunters by nature are looking for a challenge by not choosing to hunt with a rifle. Bow hunting takes more physical effort, skill, and patience. The challenge of archery hog hunting can also be dangerous, because wild hogs are aggressive animals: particularly when wounded or cornered.

Hog hunting is legal year-round in many places, because wild hogs are considered a nuisance to their environment, people, and other animals. They also have high reproduction rates, with six to ten people litters. These hogs can destroy land and carry along diseases. The long amount of time that hogs are legally allowed to be hunted adds to the popularity of the sport. Another reason that hog hunting is popular is because wild boar meat is considered a great meal. The danger of hog hunting also attracts many archers.

The prime time for hog hunting is in the late afternoon to early evening. This is when the hogs are most mobile and increases hunters’ chances of spotting one. Many hunters set up still hunting spots. These spots can be baited trails to attract the hogs, and a successful method is by setting up corn feeders. Hunters can wait around the feeders and ambush hogs when they appear. A more demanding method may be by stalking hogs. This can be extremely physical, as it often requires crawling under brush and prolonged walking. When stalking hogs, hunters may use a calling device or travel near known hog trails and feeders. Whichever method you choose, just remember that archery hog hunting can be as dangerous as it is challenging.

Hunting these animals is not for the faint of heart. Hogs can weigh several hundred pounds and some male hogs have large tusks. Hogs are also difficult to kill with an arrow, because they have around two and a half inches of cartilage beneath their skin. This may prevent the arrow from penetrating enough to kill, and may only wound the animal. Hogs are naturally aggressive and will only be angered when wounded. The hunter must be careful to pull away from the animal and hide. If a wounded hog is approaching, the hunter should fire another arrow when the animal is five to six feet away. Many hunters have been wounded while hunting hogs, so it is important to be careful.

Archery hog hunting is a fun and demanding sport than can be a proud kill for any archer. However, even experienced hunters must be careful when hunting these animals.

For whitetail deer hunters, Alabama is the place to find trophy bucks. Alabama maintains dozens of properties throughout the state to breed and grow big bucks and does. In total, about 5,000 acres of land is preserved and maintained by lodges and farms to nurture the deer population and virtually guarantee a better hunting experience for every hunter who visits.

These farms feed a special diet to the deer to ensure large bucks with well developed antlers. The feed is full of iron, clay pees, grain sorghum, and other protein sources to assist in growth. In recent years, the ratio of bucks to does has increased season by season. The ratio in the 2000-2001 season was reported at 3 to 1, and by the 2002-2003 season, the ratio was down 2.2 to 1 in the preserves, ensuring that the population flourishes.

Alabama has two seasons, both bow hunting and firearm hunting, like many other states. The dates vary year to year, with bow hunting starting in mid-October, and gun season starting at the end of November. Be sure to check with the Alabama Department of Wildlife for exact dates. Another option many farms offer to hunters is a training season often held in the winter. A guide will take you out into the woods where you’ll learn the Alabama landscape and how to best use it to your advantage in searching out your trophy buck. Many of the farms also cater to each specific hunter’s goals and preferences. Often, hunters have the option to hunt with a guide who knows the property intimately, or they can always choose to go it alone. Either way, the farm is there to assist you in reaching your hunting goal.

Alabama deer hunting has become a profitable business for those in the state. Hunters have flocked to Alabama to seek out trophy bucks for decades; it becomes an experience unmatched. Because of the minimal hunting restrictions and the many big buck opportunities throughout the state, hunting has become a business beneficial for all involved.

For those avid hunters that like to bird hunt, have you ever considered using a bow instead of a shotgun? Hunting birds with a bow may sound crazy but it can be done and here’s how you can do it.

Hunting birds with a bow will require practice shooting as well as quick reactions.

You know how difficult it is to use a shotgun, but using a bow will give you bragging rights among all bird hunters. The smaller and quicker the species, the better shot you will have to be if you plan to bag the bird.

So how can you learn?

Remember you are looking for bragging rights, so practice before you take out your friends otherwise they will only laugh.

Choose your weapon (uh… bow). Compound bows are the most commonly used. However, I prefer long bows for reaction aiming. Both of the bows can be used as neither really has the advantage over the other. Whichever you like and have confidence in will be your best choice.

#1 Practice by bow fishing. Bow fishing will give you some confidence in hitting moving objects. Plus, you can see your target for longer before having to shoot.

#2 Buy Flu-Flu Arrows. When you gain confidence in bow fishing buy some flu-flu arrows. These arrows are only designed to go 40 to fifty yards and are much easier to find.

#3 Use a Frisbee for Practice. Get someone to throw a Frisbee. It is big enough to be easy to see and easy to hit. When you can hit the Frisbee consistently, you are ready to move to smaller targets.

#4 Buy some Mini Frisbees. Using the mini Frisbees as targets will get you ready for bird hunting. When you can hit the mini Frisbees consistently, you are ready to hunt for your first bird.

#5 Start with Pheasants. Pheasants are larger than a regular Frisbee and fly slower than most other birds making them easier to hit. They also will only fly 30 to 40 yards before they go back and hide again.

#6 Bow Hunting for Birds

You are now ready to work on smaller game or hunt turkeys. The more you hunt and practice, the better you will become. When you feel real confident and gutsy, go dove hunting. That will be the ultimate challenge. Dove hunting with a bow gives you unmatched bragging rights.

If you go on the Internet search out bird hunting with a bow. You will find many people bird hunt using just a bow. Plus, you can find all the equipment you will need.

Good luck and good hunting.

I am looking for something big enough to bow hunt out of yet very transportable. I am planning a trip to another state and I think a ground blind would be a good back up. I would also use it for turkey hunting with my kids. Thanks.
