Me doing my first review on my favorite gun EVER, the SKS. I got my SKS a couple months ago and have been learning more and more about it, so i decided to make a small review on it, and maybe have others consider getting one, too. :) I failed to mention that i may be getting an extension on the magazine, probably a 20 rd., and also that it’s just a very fun gun to shoot and you can shoot it all day not get a bruised shoulder. :D PS I Have been shooting this gun for quite a while, as with all guns, so do not imply that the Iron Sights aren’t working because I don’t know how to properly aim.

both are good guns i would recomend the shotgun because it is very accurate

Texas hog hunting is a very popular type of hunting in the state, as there are many hogs in Texas. Very simply, this is a very exotic form of hunting, and while Texas isn’t the only state that offers this, hog hunting in Texas is by far the most popular place to do it in.

Obviously, hog hunting is much less popular and known than things such as deer hunting, duck hunting, moose hunting, etc, and requires a slightly different skill set to excel at it. Here are some important tips if you are to be going hot hunting in the state in the near future.

Before you get started, you will need a Texas Hunting License. These can usually be obtained via the net, and are really not to hard to get. You can either get a resident or non resident license, depending on where you live. Don’t ever go hunting in Texas or any other state without a license, as you can wind up in serious legal trouble.

Of course, one of the most important things to keep in mind about hogs that they are generally very ferocious, and can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. Most of the time, hogs can grow to be enormous sizes, and can be very intimidating to hunt.

Therefore, it is very important that you are an experienced hunter before going hog hunting, as this is one of most challenging kinds of putting that you can partake in. You should never go hog hunting in Texas or anywhere if this is your first time hunting.

If you do plan on going hog hunting, archery hunting is probably the best choice if you are looking for a big challenge. Of course, hunting with a gun is certainly easier, but when you do it with archery, you are going for the full test. This is certainly more challenging than hunting with a gun, because archery requires more hand eye coordination and timing. You also have to hit the hog in just the right spot to kill them. While guns offer a little more room for error, archery certainly does not.

Keep in mind that hog hunting in most places is done year round, because most places don’t want him around. Usually, they reproduce at alarming rates, often times having up to six in 10 hogs per litter. They can literally destroy the land and also spread around diseases very easily.

Therefore, most people agree that the more hunters they go after them, the better. Unfortunately, most hunters try to avoid hunting them because hog hunting can be dangerous when you don’t know what you’re doing, as I mentioned above. Also, this form of hunting is further encouraged because hogs provide a great meal; they are very tasty, and can certainly provide you with a lot of meat for weeks to come.

The best time for Texas hog hunting is the later afternoon to early evening. Very simply, this is when the hogs are on the move the most, and when you have the best chance of finding one. Of course, the best way to do this is to be prepared beforehand; by this, I mean doing your research and finding out where the hogs will go for their feeding, and where they live.

Also, if you plan on doing a lot of hog hunting in the state, you might want to consider obtaining Texas Hunting Leases, so that you can have your own land to hunt on whenever you want. These can usually be found very readily online; while obviously more expensive than simply going to public land, if you find a good piece of property, then this might be a good option for you.

When you know this, you can simply get in between these two areas, and intercept them is they’re going by. You might want to have a tree nearby that you know you can climb, to offer someplace to escape in case you miss and the hog charges you. Ideally, you’d hunt them from a tree stand, where you know you will be out of harms way. Hopefully these Texas hog hunting tips will be to catch a hog in your next excursion, and whether you catch one or not, to come home in one piece.

After a stressful week of work, most people tend to have their own activities that they like to on their days off to blow off a little steam. These stress relieving activities can be a number of different things from shopping, fishing, working a puzzle and so many more. An activity that has been popular for several hundred years and is still popular today is quail hunting. Hunting was a necessity to live several hundred years ago, but since then has become a sport; an activity that is shared by many people.

One reason quail hunting is different from just hunting any animal is the fact that you do not have to completely camouflage yourself to hunt them,As of now, there are right around 135 different varieties of quail in the quail family. Generally, people who choose to hunt quail will be aided by trained bird dogs whose job it is to rush into a covey (group of quail) of quail; this will scare the quail and cause them to take flight, which is when the hunters will take their shots. The bird dogs are usually trained to retrieve the now dead birds and bring them back to the respected hunter as well. The best places to find a good quail population will be on land that has vast expanses of open land as well as good amount of wooded cover to hide in.

Now it is time to take the actual shot, what gun should be used to properly hunt quail? Well the answer to that is one of the all time favorite guns; the shotgun. Shotguns are the primary type of guns used to hunt quail; the most popular gauge shotgun being used among hunters is by far the 20 gauge, but gauges from 410 to 12 are also commonly used as well. Most hunters will agree that barrel length is important; most agreeing that a 26 inch barrel is optimal. A skeet choke is highly recommended when it comes to shooting quail along with a shell having a load of 8.

A drive down the road could bring up a number of optimal spots, but permission must be granted from the owner of the land before hunting there. There are also many destinations around the world that offer guided quail hunting excursions for a set fee. To find all the quail hunting destinations close by, simply perform a search online for “Quail Hunting Destinations,” and there should be hundreds of beneficial resorts.

Quail hunting can be a relaxing way to spend weekends or just those days off that seem few and far between. While quail hunting is an activity that can be fun for the whole family, extreme caution should be expressed. All the hunters involved as well as the dogs should be wearing some form of orange clothing such as a vest, or at least an orange hat; this way no one ends up injured or worse. More information about quail hunting can be found in various hunting magazines and publications as well as online.

Wild turkeys are definitely not the smartest or the fastest animals. This is why they are so popular for bow hunting. They are easy to track and are not very intelligent, so bow hunting makes this more challenging than knocking them off with rifle. Bow hunting is one popular form of hunting that sports reusable ammunition that has been around for quite some time.

When hunting wild turkeys, a person must do their best to stay quiet. Wild turkeys are often spooked by sound but do respond to bird calls with astounding ease. Turkeys do not have as good a sense of smell that other animals possess, so staying downwind is a nonfactor in hunting this type of game. Use the call to lure them in and then just pull back and release.

The hardest part of bow hunting for wild turkeys is operating the bow itself. Though new bows offer the latest advances in technology, they still operate on the ancient design of drawback and release. They are much quieter to use than guns and there is no need to find the bullet in the carcass. Because of this factor, while eating their catch, hunters don’t have to be conscious of spent rounds.

While it will test a hunter’s accuracy with a bow, wild turkeys can make a great prize because they do grow to be very large animals. Remember that proper concealment can also lead a hunter to bagging that big prize turkey. Turkeys rely heavily on sight and have heads that can rotate 180 degrees to pick up movement and colors. Camouflage will be required when hunting these animals.

Bow hunting for wild turkeys can be a fun way to break from the normal gun and ammunition style of hunting. Remember that though turkeys are not the most elusive creatures. They respond more to sight and sound than they do smell. A hunter must master his bow, camouflage, and bird calls to attract a prize turkey close enough to kill with their arrows.

With the deer hunting season in full swing, the most important accessory for you is the hunting rifle. Finding a good hunting rifle is easier said than done. Whatever be the kind of deer you hunt , it is important to have the right gun for your hunting needs.

What is the definition of a good hunting rifle you will ask ? A good hunting rifle is one which is specifically made for hunting and can withstand years of rough use while hunting. Toughness is one factor that is of prime importance than a few others. That is why knowing what to look for in a rifle is important so that you can make an informed decision.

There are different kind of guns available for the type of hunting you do. If you do squirrels and grouse, you will need a different gun than if you went on a trip for deer or fox hunting. That said the first and foremost factor you should consider while buying the rifle is its weight. Most rifles have weight between 6 to 9 pounds. However, the best is the one which you can carry comfortably over long distances while on a hunting trip. You do not want that your arms are shaking when you take the aim for a deer.

Accuracy and range are two other factors that you need to consider while purchasing a hunting rifle. The heavier the gun the more accurate it will be, however, think twice before buying that as it means you will be carrying a heavy weight before even you can take a shot. Range is more important when you are hunting for deer or bear or fox as you cannot get closer to them while hunting. In case of hunting for smaller animals you may not need that much range as you can get closer to them while taking the aim.

Some other factors are important but not as important as the above ones. One of those factors is your experience as some guns require special expertise in operating them. The second factor is the length between the cheek and the stock which can affect your aim.

Do your research before you buy the best deer hunting rifle you need and best of luck for hunting.

Going hunting doesn’t always mean that you can always have steak on the dining table at the end of the trip. Sometimes, hunter can also miss the target.

Another time I was hunting down state, with my trusty .38/55. This is one of the most dependable guns I ever owned. It has never failed me, except one time when I broke the loading gate, and another time when I tried some reloaded fodder—loaded with home-made black powder. It is best not to fool with such stuff unless you know what you’re doing. Black powder fouls up everything.

I had hunted all morning without a bit of success and, since I was near home when noon came, I went to the house for lunch. I had some “little ones” around at that time, and I jacked the cartridge out of the barrel when I took the gun inside. However, I left the cartridges in the magazine. After eating, I went in another direction, thinking deer might be in that locality.

I hadn’t gone far, following a game trail up over a ridge, when I detected motion in the trail ahead. I stopped and awaited developments. A big doe and fawn came down trail towards me. Now in a case like this, I like to wait and see what the deer will do. In this instance, I knew well enough that the doe would keep coming until she saw me, then would swing broadside and stop for a short time until she had positively identified me. While I waited, I considered how lucky I was to find my deer so near the road and with a downhill haul all the way. The doe came to a point within a hundred feet of me before she saw me. When she did, things happened as I expected, and I swung the gun so that the sights were lined on her shoulder. I squeezed the trigger, and nothing happened except the click of the hammer on the firing pin. I had forgotten to jack a cartridge into the barrel when leaving the house.

At the click of the gun, the doe took off through the brush. She made a half circle around me at a distance that never exceeded two hundred feet, always in sight through the trees. I fired six shots at her without ruffling a hair on her hide. Such slight things will upset the nervous system of most of us and I had a serious case of buck fever at that time. Oh well! There is always another deer. Speaking of unsuccessful morning hunting, three of us had such a morning some years ago in the woods of our Somerset County.

There had been a heavy, damp snow during the night. It stuck to the trees so the woods were very quiet—you know that such stuff on trees will absorb any sound a hunter might make. These conditions make ideal hunting, if a man doesn’t mind a little snow down his neck; but the deer seldom move about on their own. A hunter must stalk their beds or kick them out in order to have a track to follow—if he expects to do much. We hunted all morning without finding a track. By noon, we were soaked to the skin and ready to call it a day. Leaving the woods we went to a farmer’s house, where we’d left the car. The farmer invited us in to dry out and eat our lunch. We were thirty miles from home and hated to leave without a deer.

There is always another day to come back for hunting if the first attempt doesn’t come successfully.

Mitch Johnson asked:

There are laws to protect the deer but some of them are not implemented properly. In Maine it is allowed to take a deer for so that the herds are prospered. There are some laws that already banned the hunting of these deer so that their populations are maintained.

We had no regular hunter as some of the camps had, but one of the men had made a salt lick a short distance from camp and, as he worked all day, the only time that he could visit the lick was at night. I went with him one night when he killed a deer. We were equipped with a miner’s acetylene lamp and a .45-90 rifle. We waited on a platform in a tree until a deer showed up and then he shot the animal. There was no pretense of sport in the killing. It was simply the killing of an animal for its meat in the surest and easiest way. Since then I have seen many refinements added to this type of hunting. The acetylene lamp has been re placed by the electric spotlight. The tree platform has been replaced by the mobile, cushioned seat of a car and the old .45-90 is only a relic beside the guns of today. Only the poor bewildered deer is the same as it stands in the light, waiting to be butchered.

The use of dogs as an aid to deer hunting, while permitted in some areas, is forbidden in most states. Here in Maine, the use of dogs has been outlawed for a long time and as a result I have had little experience with this type of hunting. We have a few poachers who have deer dogs and who use them occasionally, but as the penalty is usually death to the dog and a fine to the owner, no man who values a dog will use him for this purpose.

I have watched a few of these dogs in action and I can see where there would be a certain amount of sport in this type of hunting, if it were legal and if the dogs were properly trained. Slow-trailing dogs that do not drive the deer out of the country would seem to be the best deer dogs. The deer circle ahead of these slow dogs arid the sport would be similar to fox hunting. Most every one will admit that fox hunting is considered a good sport.

I knew of one poacher who owned two dogs that he had trained to hunt deer. They were very fast dogs and they were trained to drive deer to the man’s house where he waited to shoot them. This man’s boys would take the dogs by a circular route to a point some distance from the house and then turn them loose. If there was a deer between the dogs and the man’s house, that deer had very little chance of turning back past the dogs and it usually ended up hanging in the man’s shed. He didn’t consider this as sport, only an easy way to obtain meat for his family and to supplement his income during the deer season when he sold a few deer to unsuccessful sportsmen.

When a hunter goes for hunting, he has to use the equipments for his safety. Nowadays the equipments used in hunting have so much improvement.
