Bear hunting is one of the most exciting types of game in the United States. However, it’s also one of the most regulated due to depleting populations and over hunting in the past. Majority of US states have some form of legal bear hunting. You just need to know the laws regarding it and what you can and can’t do. This article will give you a little insight and help direct you on the right path to legally hunt bears in your area.

The first step is to find out what bear species you can legally hunt. Your state government’s official wildlife or conservation website is an excellent source for this. You can find a link containing each state’s official site at the end of this article. After learning about the species you can legally hunt it’s a very smart idea to learn how to visually identify those bear species in the wild.

The second step is to obtain any special license permits and tags. You’ll always need a hunting license to hunting any type of animal; and this license is given out per state. You’ll also need another permit to go bear hunting and probably need a tag for any bears you actually do harvest. Pay special attention to any limits in terms of gender and size. All this information is obtaining by your state government’s official wildlife or conservation website

Finally you need to know what you legally can and can’t do while bear hunting. This might include limits on ammo or rifle types. Also, you may or may not be able to bait bears. This is when you place out food to attract a bear to a specific area. Bear baiting is banned in quite a few states and you need to find out if it’s legal in your state. Make sure you follow all regular hunting regulations; this includes hunting seasons, required safety gear, etc.

Bear hunting is a favor sport among hunters, especially in the US. However, sadly each year there are still hunting related accidents. This article is designed to help educate the average hunter on hunting safety when bear hunting. Hopefully, this article can help prevent some of these accidents and even a fatality.

First and foremost you must always follow state hunting safety regulations. Each state will require you to wear a specific amount of “hunter safety orange” when out hunting. This is usually done by a percent, square feet or specific clothing. Make sure to contact your state’s department of natural resources to find out exactly how much hunter safety orange you need to wear.

You NEVER want to go out bear hunting without telling someone. At least one person should know where your going exactly, how long you’ll be there and when you plan on returning. If something happens authorities will have an idea where to search for you if you don’t show up when you were expected, this alone has saved more lives than anything.

Make sure you have hunting experience or an experienced hunting partner prior to going bear hunting. Bears are normally not a danger to humans; however they can easily overpower you, out run you and even climb better than you. So, you should have a general idea on how to properly stalk and kill a bear prior to your trip.

You should always carry bear pepper spray and a back-up firearm. A.357 is an excellent back-up side arm when bear hunting; and far more efficient than pepper spray. The idea is to be able to protect yourself if confronted in close corners with the bear. Remember, while you’re tracking a bear the bear itself can turn about and start tracking you!

Remember, hunting bears is serious business and most likely the most dangerous hunting activity you can do in North America. If you’d like to learn more about bear hunting in general please follow the links below.

If you hold fond memories of listening to stories about Winnie the Pooh, then you might not want to take part in any bear hunting activities. However, if you can lay aside your thoughts about a make believe animal, then you can better appreciate the approach that will help to assure your success.

The person who has chosen to set out on his or her first bear hunt should consider attracting the hunted animal by using the appropriate bait. Bears tend to go after a desirable food source. A smart hunter learns to wait patiently at the location of such a source.

An impatient hunter will find it hard to go after bears by using appealing bait. Such a person might find it easier to chase fast moving deer or elk. However, those who want to return from a hunting expedition with a large and impressive carcass need to give careful consideration to the advantages attached to bear hunting.

Such bear hunting does not demand the acquisition of lots of expensive gear. Unless done in the wilds of Canada, the act of going after bears seldom requires exposure to very cold temperatures. Remember, bears hibernate during the winter months. In addition, one does not need to worry about hearing lots of criticism from animal lovers, if one has chosen to seek out and shoot possible relatives of Pooh.

If you harbor political aspirations, then you should give careful thought to going after a full grown and fully alive “Teddy.” After all, children use that name for certain stuffed animals because a former president was known to enjoy outdoor adventures, especially those that included a quest for a forest living mammal.

Of course, just about any hunted animal is going to try to escape from the weapons carried by the hunter. However, a bear, unlike a deer or an elk, is not apt to run over a ledge. Instead, it can be expected to climb a tree. Placement of bait helps to draw an animal away from any type of retreat. That fact explains the success one can enjoy when going after bears.

While there are many outdoor adventure activities, only the act of bear hunting can offer the promise of a reasonable amount of success. It cannot provide a horn bearing trophy, but it can certainly aid acquisition of a fearsome looking, carefully stuffed and well mounted head.
