Finding good deer hunting rifles will make or break your next hunting trip. Very simply, the hunter is only as good as the rifle they are using. Unless you plan on going bow hunting, without having a good rifle, you can never achieve your full gear on potential. Whether you plan on going mule deer hunting, whitetail deer hunting, or otherwise, these tips will help you to find the top deer hunting rifle as quickly as possible.

Obviously, as their name implies, hunting rifles are generally only utilized for hunting. They usually are very tough and stable, and when you pick the right one, will last a long time. Hunting rifles are set apart by their performance standards, and are usually available in quite a few different models, cartridges, etc.

You can purchase hunting rifles that are designed for both bigger and smaller animals, depending on which kind of game you plan targeting for your next trip. For instance, the hunting rifle you purchase will be different if you plan a hunting squirrels a raccoon, compared to black bear.

Therefore, if you do plan on going deer hunting, the rifle you choose will vary depending on which one you plan on going after. So how do you know which rifles will be the best for your deer hunting adventures?

One of the first things you need to take into consideration are the weight of the gun, how far they can fire, and how long you been hunting for. Very simply, your level of expertise in the field hunting will greatly determine what kind of rifle you decide to purchase. Some guns are designed specifically for more advanced users, see if you are a beginner you’ll probably want to avoid these.

Also, don’t hurry in your decision of on which rifles to choose; this is a very important decision, and you need to weigh all the options before you make your decision. Also, keep in mind that you can customize the rifle you purchase so that the length will fit you.

The length between the cheek and the stock is extremely important thing to take into consideration as well. Quite simply, when you’re lining up your aim, you should be able to see through the sights of the gun. If not, it is very easy to misfire, and you probably not really catch many deer.

Another extremely important consideration for your deer hunting rifles is the weight of the gun. Very simply, these are generally between 6 and 9 pounds, and since you will usually be carrying it for longer distances, you want to be able to carry it very easily.

However, don’t simply assume that the lighter rivals are the best because they are the easiest to carry; in reality, they are usually easier to carry because they are less accurate than their larger rival counterparts. The heavier rifles are much more on target, you can plan getting a more accurate shot out of them. You have to weigh whether you want your deer hunting rifles to be easier to be heavier and more accurate, or a lighter rifle but risk missing the deer.

The best way to find the right deer hunting rifles will be to simply go on the Internet and find this out. For this, there are many websites on the Internet to sell hunting rifles today, and finding them really is a very difficult at all.

Once you have found hunting rifles that meet your budget in need, now simply read reviews on them on the Internet, find out which one is the best quality. Hopefully these deer hunting rifles tips will be to find the best hunting rifle for your hunting needs.

By: Walter Madison

About the Author:

Becoming a more efficient wing shooter can make a big difference when there’s a limited amount of opportunity of birds when duck hunting. Hopefully a few of the shotgun tips below will help you bag a few more birds this duck hunting season.

1. Point, Don’t Aim – When swinging on ducks, focus on the target and not the gun barrel or bead. The key is to point, not aiming like your hunting with a rifle. Aiming your shotgun will slow your swing and cause you to shoot behind. Since a shot string is 10-14′ long, use it to your advantage by pointing slightly more in front of a target. If you miss crossing ducks, you are probably behind the target.

2. Minimize Movement For Your First Shot – A very simple strategy that can help you improve your chances at a double is to stay seated during your first shot and then if necessary stand up to take your second shot. Ducks flare quickly when they see a hunter stand up to shoot and this makes shooting a double much more challenging. By staying seated for your first shot, you won’t identify yourself as quickly and it will give you a better opportunity to shoot an “easy” double.

3. Keep Your Shells Dry And Mud Free – Seems like everything a hunter takes duck hunting ends up getting muddy. But muddy shells can quickly gum up an autoloader. To prevent this empty your shells into a large plastic Ziploc bag the next time you head out hunting in wet muddy conditions.

4. Prevent Stuck Choke Tubes – Duck hunting is synonymous with wet conditions and moisture most often leads to rust. Applying a light coat of Anti-Seize or grease to the threads of your choke tube will prevent the threads from rusting. A stuck choke tube can be disaster during duck hunting season and cost a lot of money to repair.

5. Keep The Swing Going – Many birds are missed simply the shooter not following through their swing. One method to help prevent this is to start your swing behind the target. By having to catch up to the target you will be less apt to stop your swing once firing at the target.

6. Don’t Over Choke – In addition to causing a pattern to spray, using to tight of a choke tube can cause misses that could be avoided with the next sized more open choke tube. Select the choke tube for the distance you commonly shoot at and be sure to pattern your selection.

7. Patterning Tells The Truth – Every brand of choke tube will pattern different. The pattern will also change when shooting different shot sizes. Before duck hunting season pattern your gun with the shot sizes you plan to use instead of just listening to what others use.

8. What’s The Best Shot Shell – Once again the patterning board will tell you this first hand. At 40 yards shoot at a sheet of cardboard with a 30″ circle drawn on it. Now shooting multiple loads or brands count how many pellets are within the 30″ circle per brand of shell being used using the same choke through out the testing.

9. Get The Gunk Out – Carburetor cleaner in a spray can is a very effective degreaser to clean shotguns with. After removing the barrel and trigger mechanism from your shotgun, hold the receiver upside down over a trashcan and spray from top to bottom to wash out the gunk. Do not use carburetor clean on camouflage guns, it may melt the camo coating.

10. Beat The Rust – If your considering purchasing a new shotgun for duck hunting, or your just tired of having to oil your blued gun after every hunt to stop it from rusting here’s the solution. I have owned a camouflage shotgun (Beneli) for about 5 years now and rarely wipe the gun down with oil after a day duck hunting, even if it was raining. Even after this abuse there is no rust on my gun. The camouflage coating simply doesn’t allow it.

By: Jeff Matura

About the Author:

Sportsmen looking for an additional hunting challenge sometimes turn to old-style black powder rifles, hunting deer and other big game at a closer range, with a one-shot limit. It’s a test of a hunter’s patience and skill – you have to really know the game you’re hunting, you have to be more conscious of the wind, and you need to be able to get much closer. It’s a primitive weapon, but many hunters find that it gives them a great sense of accomplishment, and makes them feel more connected to their ancestors, who used weapons like these to hunt for food.

Black powder hunting for deer requires you to carry to carry more accessories than you do when hunting with a modern rifle. The black-powder shooter needs to carry powder, balls, patches, a ramrod, cleaning jags, patch lube, solvent, and a ball pulling worm. Even if you have a bag that stores all this gear comfortably, you’ll still need to be extremely organized. It also ups the challenge of hunting big game at a closer distance, since all those powders, lubes and solvents add to your scent, increasing your need to be conscious of the way the wind carries.

Interestingly, the reason that black-powder hunting is done at such a close range isn’t because of the power or accuracy of the weapon but because of the limitation of your sight. A modern hunting rifle with a scope allows you to see for hundreds of yards – but the open sight of a black-powder gun doesn’t give you that advantage. Some hunters choose to mount rifle scopes on their black-powder rifles, but the traditionalists say that this takes away from the purpose of black-powder hunting.

You also have to patient and accurate with a black-powder gun, since you only get one shot – something that’s a real novelty for hunters used to autoloading or bolt-action rifles. And it’s a completely different type of hunting, one that many hunters have difficulty adjusting to. With a multiple shot rifle, a hunter will take whatever shot is presented to him as soon as he spots it, figuring that if misses he can take another shot. With muzzleloaded black-powder gun, however, the hunter has to wait for his one good shot. Even if the deer’s right out in the open in front of him, if he doesn’t have that one good shot, he just has to wait it out.

There’s a great deal of skill and knowledge that goes into this type of deer hunting – you have to know how close you can get to the deer, what you range is, and whether you can get that one shot. But when it all comes together, black-powder deer hunting is an accomplishment unlike any other.

By: Rich Fuller

About the Author:

Sometimes, the things and gadgets that you think are the least useful will prove you wrong in the end. And in a potentially dangerous sport like hunting, having all the right hunting gadgets that technology brings you can be a matter of life and death. Let’s take a solar powered torchlight as an example. Don’t think it’d be of any use to you? Well, imagine the kind of convenience and security measure it would provide you if you had it and you run out of battery supplies. Furthermore, the solar powered torchlight doesn’t need batteries and they can operate for over long periods at night even when there’s no sunlight because they have the capability of storing energy in their internal batteries.

And yes, of course, hunting is a skill-game. The only way to get really good at hunting is not by way of having as many hunting gadgets in your backpack as possible. The only way to get good at hunting is by practicing, practicing and practicing. You can have a 500-yard hunting rifle, laser rangefinders and whatever-else-you-can-find-on-and-off-the-internet and yet, without the right skills, you will do not much better than without the hunting gadgets.

But imagine, if you’re OK in the hunting game and you have some cool and funky hunting gadgets with you, it WILL make a difference. With some skill, hunting gadgets like the precision hunting rifle and motion detectors will come in really handy!

One of the most amazing hunting gadgets to have handy is the Rangefinders (I personally love the Simmons Rangefinder) which gives you the confidence of shooting with unparalleled accuracy. Because with each shot, the Rangefinder will recalibrate, you get more and more accurate with each shot. Therefore, even an amateur hunting enthusiast can be quite successful during the hunting trips. The right Rangefinder should be resistant to weather elements like rain and extreme heat. And the Rangefinder’s performance should not be affected AT ALL with rain and close-by objects like leaves, branches and leaves.

The best Rangefinders in the market should be as silent as your footsteps whenever you’re hunting. Other factors you should check out before you buy a new Rangefinder is the weight of the hunting gadget, the complexity of setup, ease of use, size of the hunting gadget and how fast does the battery run out. If the Rangefinder has a speed gun function…all the better but an expert in hunting can probably live without it. The hunting gadget should be accurate to within a foot off the target. Anything less than that, forget it.

By: Dylan Miles

About the Author:
